On this page I intend to begin a grow journal. We will take you through all the steps beginning with germinating your cannabis seeds. (in fact the journey will begin before then while we choose a new strain and seedbank... I'm very excited for this grow!
For the grow i will be utilising a space of around 6-6, non tented grow space. Plants will be kept in a coco-coir medium and under a Mars hydro grow light. we will dive further into the grow setup and equipment in a later post... this one is simply to ensure audience awareness of this page. Firstly, the setup: Ok so to set up my grow space i first cleaned it from the last run, ensuring to remove any bits of rubbish or detritus, this is important because Cannabis needs a clean and healthy space to thrive. Ensure to use anti-bacterial spray to remove any microscopic problems, if left to flourish these could cause Cannabis plants a real problem later down the line, especially during the flowering phase. After completing a thorough scrub down of my area, the next task is to install any equipment not already in place. Because i have just scrubbed down, my grow space is a blank canvas. I begin by installing the carbon filter and outtake fan. These will ensure a constant healthy environment in the grow space. Cannabis plants suffer if the air is not recycled as they need CO2 for the photosynthetic production it will go through. The carbon filter is in place in order to keep everything nice and stealthy. The activated carbon acts by scrubbing the smells of your cannabis, ensuring the only thing being pushed out of your grow space is fresh smelling air. A carbon filter is essential for anybody not growing in a legal country, it will save you a lot of troubles further down the line, especially during harvesting and curing of your buds. Next up i installed my intake fan, this will push the clean air into my grow space, and allow for circulation. As already mentioned, clean air is important for your Cannabis plants so this step cant be avoided. In addition to a real intake fan, its worthwhile picking up some smaller oscillating fans. These are then positioned around your grow space in order to further push the air around inside your grow space. This stops pests and disease appearing on your crop, and considering they cost around £6 each, they're definitely worth getting. In addition to the above benefits, small fans can also help the strength of your young seedlings, improving their durability by making them sway in the artificial wind. This has been proven to help produce bigger buds further down the line, remember, a strong cannabis plant will yield a lot of weed! After installing my fans i set the light up, hanging around 30cm from where the canopy will eventually be. Because the light is hung on ratchet straps i can increase or decrease the height at any time. This is great because if its too far away your plants will begin to stretch towards the light, making their stem very weak and fragile. With the lights, fans, and filter now in, there's not much to do except order my seeds... stay tuned for the next post, were going to do a bit of research now and come back to you with some great ideas for which strain to run. As a basic requirement I'm thinking to go for an Indica dominant strain, there isn't much height in my grow room setup so i need a plant that will stay quite low and bushy, this has indica written all over it. If i cant find a nice indica dominant strain to go for, i will choose a full Indica and see how they do, Northern lights really tickles my fancy... we shall see! Happy smoking guys and girls
